Location & Directions
Durisdeer
Village lies at the end of a country lane, nestling at the foot
of the Lowther Hills. The perfect place to relax and unwind yet
within easy reach of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Ayr and Carlisle ( all
approx 60 miles ) and Dumfries (18 miles).
The village itself boasts an historic church which houses one of
the finest sculptures in Scotland. The beautiful unspoilt countryside
is ideal for hill walkers and outdoor enthusiasts. A variety of
sporting activities are available locally including Pony Trekking,
Swimming, Golf, Squash, Fishing and Shooting.
The village of Thornhill lies 5 miles to the south and has many
interesting shops, eating places and an excellent 18 hole golf course.
Thornhill has been called the " Duke's Village" because
of its lengthy connection with the Dukes of Buccleuch and Queensberry
who have resided at Drumlanrig Castle for 300 years.
