The castle, just 3 miles away, is open to the public during the summer and has many attractions including a craft centre, bicycle hire and repair, mapped woodland walks and mountain bike trails, an adventure playground and tearoom. A variety of activities are available in the locality including mountain biking at Drumlanrig and the 7 Stanes trails of Ae Forest and Mabie, walking on the nearby Southern Upland Way, pony trekking, swimming, golf, squash, fishing and shooting.
